How do I choose between different contractors?

That is a great question. Quality workmanship is what you should look for. A great way to tell if contractors have quality workmanship is to ask about the preparation process and what materials are used. By focusing on the preparation of your project, a contractor can ensure the longevity of your paint job. With that same regard, quality materials make a big difference. Are you licensed and insured? 

We are licensed and insured. We abide by state and local tax and business laws.

Do you offer a Warranty? 

Yes, we offer a Warranty on our projects. Our Warranty is from 3-7 Years

Are the materials included in the cost of the estimate? 

Materials are included in the estimate unless otherwise specified.

What types of materials do you use? 

We use top of the line materials from our different vendors. Some of our vendors include Dunn Edwards, Sherwin Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Kelly-Moore.

Are you hiring a contractor?

Our checklist will help you narrow down your search.

Hiring a Contractor can be overwhelming. With our checklist, you can feel comfortable choosing a contractor that best suits your needs.

 

  • License- Make sure that the contractor you’re considering is a licensed professional. Look them up on the Contractors State License Board. Licensed and Insured contractors will have General Liability Insurance, Workers Compensation Insurance, and a State Issued License.
  • Experience- When hiring a contractor, you want to hire a reputable professional. An experienced contractor can help you with choosing quality materials and keep up with the latest trends in the industry. Ask for references when hiring a contractor.

  • Preparation- Contractors with experience know the correct way to prepare your surface for the work that will be performed. They will not take shortcuts in the preparation and this will ensure quality.

  • Written estimate- A professional painting contractor provides their clients with written contracts and specifications. They include the cost of materials, labor, and any other charges. The cost needs to be discussed upfront so there aren’t any surprises for either party.

  • Warranty- Is the contractor you’re interviewing offer a warranty on their work? Manufacturers offer a warranty on their products and contractors should specify the details of their written warranty.

  • Cost- Hiring on cost alone isn’t always the best bet. Low priced bids may not always be the best quality. Being comfortable with the price is always good but one also needs to factor in the quality of the job.

  • Multiple Estimates- It is smart to shop around with at least 3 different contractors. You can see which one offers the best quality, warranty, and style of work that you are looking for.

  • Ask Questions- Asking questions can help you be comfortable with the contractor and they can help find solutions that fit for your project.

Alonso Ponce

Alonso is the owner and founder of Sunwest Painting. He has over 30 years of experience in the industry. He oversees the quality of projects and manages the Sunwest Painting crew. His interests include playing soccer, skiing and the great outdoors.

Luis Ponce

Co-owner of Sunwest Painting. Luis has over 10 years of experience in the painting industry. He is an excellent communicator and has helped grow Sunwest Painting to the company it is today.  His interests include watching basketball games, rooting for The Golden State Warriors and spending time with his family.

Learn about Sunwest Painting

Sunwest Painting was founded by Alonso Ponce back in 2001. After working for several years as a painter for a very successful company, he decided to start his own company in hopes of becoming a successful business owner and have more time to spend with his family. Alongside with his wife they started working together to build what is now Sunwest Painting. He would get the leads, buy material, do the jobs and she would take care of the finances and all admin work from their home office. Within a short time, he hired his first employee and several contractors throughout the years. Most of the residential growth was through referrals and word of mouth; his past employer hired him as a subcontractor and gave him a lot of commercial business. By 2013 his son Luis joined the company and with his help they expanded tremendously in both residential and commercial. By 2014 they moved into a shop, had purchased several company vehicles and hired more painters and office staff.

Today, Sunwest Painting is well known in the south bay and surrounding areas. Thanks to their hard work and great painting crew they been awarded the 2015 and 2016 Super Service Award by Angie’s List, they are listed as the top painting contractor in Google search, and their online reviews keep growing making their online presence stronger in all social media including Yelp, Google, Facebook, and Angie’s List to name a few.

What has distinguished Sunwest Painting from other painting companies besides their outstanding work is their honesty and client relations, a lot of the growth has been because of repeat business and referrals. Their clients become their friends and they treat each project with the attention and care that they would treat theirs. Success has not come easy. It has been a lot of years of hard work, sacrifice and commitment. All the years working together in this industry has given them the experience needed to become experts in completing each project meeting and exceeding their clients’ expectations. What is Paint-It-Forward?

Paint-It-Forward is a charity program that was founded ten years ago by Joshua Ambrason in Los Angeles California. It helps families and nonprofits in need of a paint job that for some unfortunate reason cannot afford it. Since completing the first painting job ten years ago many painting contractors across the US and Canada have taken Paint-It-Forward to their communities and have reached a goal of over $1,000,000 worth of free painting services and materials. Sunwest Painting has joined the movement; we know that there are hundreds of families and non-profits in desperate need of a paint job and we want to help! We are giving away a $3,500 paint job to a deserving family or nonprofit org in our community. We are excited to transform, beautify, and give back to our community by giving away this paint job.
