Contractor Checklist

Are you hiring a contractor?

Our checklist will help you narrow down your search.

Hiring a Contractor can be overwhelming. With our checklist, you can feel comfortable choosing a contractor that best suits your needs.

  • License- Make sure that the contractor you’re considering is a licensed professional. Look them up on the Contractors State License Board. Licensed and Insured contractors will have General Liability Insurance, Workers Compensation Insurance, and a State Issued License.
  • Experience- When hiring a contractor, you want to hire a reputable professional. An experienced contractor can help you with choosing quality materials and keep up with the latest trends in the industry. Ask for references when hiring a contractor.

  • Preparation- Contractors with experience know the correct way to prepare your surface for the work that will be performed. They will not take shortcuts in the preparation and this will ensure quality.

  • Written estimate- A professional painting contractor provides their clients with written contracts and specifications. They include the cost of materials, labor, and any other charges. The cost needs to be discussed upfront so there aren’t any surprises for either party.

  • Warranty- Is the contractor you’re interviewing offer a warranty on their work? Manufacturers offer a warranty on their products and contractors should specify the details of their written warranty.

  • Cost- Hiring on cost alone isn’t always the best bet. Low priced bids may not always be the best quality. Being comfortable with the price is always good but one also needs to factor in the quality of the job.

  • Multiple Estimates- It is smart to shop around with at least 3 different contractors. You can see which one offers the best quality, warranty, and style of work that you are looking for.

  • Ask Questions- Asking questions can help you be comfortable with the contractor and they can help find solutions that fit for your project.

How to Caulk Properly

Everything around us is constantly moving and your walls for example are no exception. Prevention control is a great concept to keep in mind when thinking of the different weather conditions slowly taking a toll on your home. Simple and sometimes inexpensive steps such as a good caulking job can make a great deal of difference.    Caulking helps seal cracks and joints inside or outside of your home, the same cracks that if let be, will allow internal moisture to accumulate and may just be your home’s potential worst enemy. Water seeping to the inside of walls and other small spaces regardless of how small it may be can lead to bigger more costly problems not to mention the seemingly hidden mold build up.  Read more

What is causing my paint to bubble?

We all love bubbles, just not within our paint. Imagine sticking a sticker on a wet table, it gets slimy and slides. The moisture from the table prevents the adhesive of the sticker from sticking right? Not that we want that annoying sticker on our table but bubbling paint has essentially the same concept. Bubbling is due to poor surface preparation and excessive moisture that gets enclosed between the paint and the surface to be painted.   There are different factors that affect your paint and identifying the underlying culprit makes it much easier to fix and prevent future bubbles from forming underneath your paint.
